As the boat comes about, an easterly wind from shore reminds you of the Honeysuckle and Sweet Pea flowers you enjoyed on your walk the day before. Peru is the 9th largest producer of coffee in the world accounting for about 2% of global coffee production or about 595M pounds of coffee in 2020 . It is also one of the leading producers of organic and Fair Trade certified coffees.
The three main coffee growing areas are Chanchamayo, the Amazonas and San Martin regions, and the southern highlands. St Ignacio, (the primary area of these beans and close to the Ecuadorian border), is the centralized area of coffee plantations in northern Peru.
From a flavor perspective, Peruvian coffee stands out as possessing a balance of full flavor, mellow-medium body, and middle acidity, with a light sweet finish. Primarily, smooth nutty and chocolate undertones come through.

This coffee has quickly become a favorite. I normally drink a dark roast, but was looking to change things up a bit. It’s got a great taste, low acidity, and great flavor. The aroma is great, it’s hard to put the cup down once you take the first sip.
