Yunnan black tea, also known as Dianhong, is a black tea that originated in the Yunnan province of China. The tea plants used to make Yunnan can vary depending on the type of tea and the region where it’s grown:

Yunnan Black Tea

Made from Assamica or Assamica hybrid plants, the taste of Yunnan black tea can vary depending on the hybrid, harvest season, pick style, and processing. Some examples of hybrids include Camellia Sinensis var. Assamica, Yun Kang #10, and Yun Kang #100.

Old Tree Yunnan Black Tea

Made from the leaves of tea trees that are 200–300 years old, these trees grow naturally in ecological forestry gardens without pesticides or fertilizer. The tea has a strong, sharp flavor with a rich aftertaste and a classic caramel taste.

Laoshu Dianhong

Made from the leaves of the ancestral tea tree variety Camellia taliensis, which is only found in western Yunnan. This tea has a rich wildflower aroma and a sweet, complex finish.

Yunnan Sun Dried Black Tea

Also known as Shai Hong, this tea is made from the leaves of the large leaf Assamica tea plant varietal. The tea is sun-dried, which gives it a sweet and comforting taste.

Dianhong Black Tea

Made from the leaves of pu-erh tea trees, this tea has a lingering sweetness and can withstand nearly ten infusions.
