SHB Huehuetenango ASOPCE

The “SHB” in SHB Huehuetenango ASOPCE, stands for Strictly Hard Bean. It is a coffee grade used in Central America to show that the coffee was grown at a high altitude (usually 1,350 meters or 4,400 feet above sea level or higher). In this case, the selection was grown at 1,500 meters.

Why SHB Matters:
• Slow Growth: Cold air at high points makes the coffee fruit grow slow.
• Dense Bean: Slow growth builds a hard and dense coffee bean.
• Better Flavor: Dense beans hold rich oils that give the coffee a complex, bright, and clean taste

This lot comes from members of the Association of Specialty Coffee Producers of Huehuetenango (ASOPCE). The organization
was founded in 2015 to unite regional coffee and help them connect their coffees with international markets while ensuring fair
prices. Today, the association represents more than 450 members, the majority of which are smallholder producers. Farms
averaging 1.5 hectares are situated between 1,500–2,000masl, where ideal growing conditions support the production of high quality
specialty coffee.
The association provides technical assistance, access to credit, and commercialization support, helping producers improve quality
while promoting environmentally and socially responsible farming practices. ASOPCE also operates a dedicated women producers
program. Beyond coffee production, the organization supports a variety of community initiatives, including educational,
healthcare, infrastructure, tools, and equipment projects that benefit producers and their families. Through its commitment to
quality, sustainability, and community development, ASOPCE continues to create opportunities for producers while delivering
exceptional coffees to specialty markets around the world.
